Aston Hall - BirminghamNov 27, 2011 Aston Hall is one of Birmingham's most treasured buildings. One of England's finest Jacobean mansions, built by Sir Thomas Holte, a Warwickshire landowner, between 1618-1635,the man after whom the Holte End stand of Villa Park is named. Grade I listed. The house boasts some fine interiors including early 17th century plasterwork, wood carving and chimney pieces. Aston Hall boasts sumptious interiors from the 17th, 18th and 19th centuries, including the magnificent Long Gallery. Display rooms illustrate the part Aston Hall and it's residents played in key moments in history, including the English Civil War, and how it prepared to recieve royalty on more than one occasion.

Gravelly Hill Interchange, better known by its nickname Spaghetti Junction, is junction 6 of the M6 motorway where it meets the A38(M) Aston Expressway in Birmingham, United Kingdom. Its colloquial name of "Spaghetti Junction" was coined in the 1970s by Roy Smith, a journalist from the Birmingham Evening Mail. It provides access to and from the A38 (Tyburn Road), A38 (M) (Aston Expressway), the A5127 (Lichfield Road/Gravelly Hill), and several unclassified local roads. Construction started in 1968 and the junction was opened in November 1972 by the then environment secretary Peter Walker. The opening had been scheduled for the start of the year but was delayed, according to contemporary reports, by "box girder inspections". In an unusual meeting of old and new transport technology, the pillars supporting the flyovers over the Birmingham Canal Navigations had to be carefully placed to enable a horse-drawn canal boat to pass under the interchange without fouling the towing rope. The junction has undergone major repair work several times since, due to the very heavy traffic through the junction, and some alleged cost-saving measures during its construction. In November 2007, a sliproad running from the Tyburn Road onto the Aston Expressway was closed to undergo urgent repair works. Upon inspection, it was found that Spaghetti Junction itself was in need of repair work due to salt and grit weakening the joints in the structure ...

Theo Walcott levelled before Van Persie sealed victory with a second spotkick after Bent's foul on Laurent Koscielny. Arsenal, 10-times winners of the FA Cup, will now visit the winners of next week's Middlesbrough-Sunderland fourth-round replay. As for Villa, manager Alex McLeish will be wondering how on earth his side lost from a winning position. McLeish denied Arsenal a first trophy since 2005 11 months ago when he steered Birmingham City to a famous win over the Gunners in last season's Carling Cup final. But the Scot was the one left shell-shocked this time as Arsenal staged a magnificent fightback. The Gunners were in desperate need of a lift after losing three straight league games, and the early exchanges suggested they were determined to make amends for their recent poor form. Villa keeper Shay Given was forced into a stunning fifth minute save to keep out Thomas Vermaelen's 30-yard thunderbolt before Walcott was guilty of slicing a glorious opportunity wide. The England international skipped past a challenge after Tomas Rosicky's 13th minute pass, but Walcott lost his composure at the crucial moment.
